About us

We started this project so every dry eye patient can receive the best possible treatment.

Most dry eye care treats the symptoms. The default answer is artificial tears — often indefinitely. Drops soothe the surface for a while, but they do nothing about the underlying reason your eyes are dry. We believe patients deserve better: treatment directed at the cause, chosen on evidence, and measured over time.

Treat the cause, not just the symptoms

Dry eye disease has real, identifiable causes — meibomian gland dysfunction, ocular surface inflammation, reduced tear production, and more. Yet most patients never get a structured, cause-directed treatment plan. They get drops, and they come back when the drops stop being enough.

There is no single approach that applies to everyone. Effective care means identifying your specific underlying condition and selecting — often combining — therapies that address it. Done right, the result is lasting improvement and less dependence on drops, instead of a lifetime of managing discomfort.

Why a data platform

Modern, cause-directed dry eye treatment exists — but it is unevenly available, and patients have almost no way to know which of the 56+ therapies actually work for people like them. That gap is why DryEyeMonitor exists.

By collecting standardized, anonymized outcomes from real patients — effectiveness, side effects, burden, cost — and connecting patients and eye-care professionals around one shared picture of what’s working, we help every treatment decision be a little better informed than the last one.

Our principles

What we believe

The cause comes first

Symptom relief matters, but it isn’t a plan. Whether the driver is gland dysfunction, inflammation, or reduced tear production, treatment should target it directly.

No one-size-fits-all

There is no simple approach that applies to everyone. Therapies should be selected and combined based on your concrete diagnosis — and adjusted as your data comes in.

Less dependence on drops

The goal of good dry eye care is durable improvement — not a lifelong routine of artificial tears. When the cause is treated, most patients need drops less, not more.

The people behind the project

Our team

DryEyeMonitor is built by a small team that has spent its career in ophthalmology — in the operating room, in the clinic, and in the systems that make modern eye care run.

LH

Dr. Ludger Hanneken

Founder & CEO

Ludger is an ophthalmic surgeon and entrepreneur. He has founded eye clinics in Germany, Spain and Andorra, and advises companies in ophthalmology and medical IT.

Seeing how rarely dry eye patients receive structured, cause-directed treatment, he started DryEyeMonitor to make modern dry eye care — and the evidence behind it — accessible to the millions who live with the disease.

AC

Arturo Cecilia

Operations

Arturo is an industrial engineer with more than a decade in ophthalmology, focused on operations and business development.

He has worked closely with refractive and intraocular surgery clinics, supporting their growth through process optimization, digital tools and strategic consulting. At DryEyeMonitor he runs operations — keeping the platform reliable for patients and clinicians alike.

How it comes together

One shared picture of your dry eye

Conventional dry eye care is fragmented: the patient sees one professional here, another there, and nobody holds the full picture. We connect patients and eye-care professionals through a single digital portal, following standardized protocols — so the same structured data informs every step of your care.

  • Patients track symptoms and treatments in minutes a day, and see their own trend.
  • Clinicians get a structured, pre-visit summary instead of a vague “it’s about the same.”
  • Everyone benefits from the aggregate: real-world evidence on what actually works.
“Most treatments for dry eye manage the symptoms. We exist to help patients and clinicians find what treats the cause — and to measure it, patient by patient.”
